Description

Flow patterns and dust concentration distribution in a mountain tunnel under construction have been numerically calculated. Influences of ventilation air flow rate, air tube configuration and an obstacle near the cutting face were discussed. Trajectories of different size particles were also calculated for different wall conditions for deposition. The dust concentration measured by the guideline measurement method was compared with calculated dust concentration distributions.<br>The injection-suction system was shown to be more effective than the simple injection system. Dust concentration in the injection-suction system decreased as the ventilation air flow rate is increased. A vortex flow developed around an obstacle leaded to increase in dust concentration. Removed fraction of particles from the outlet was affected by the wall condition.
