Description
Based on the data of shear-wave velocity measured at 459 sites in the Kanto area and the Digital National Land Information, correlation between site conditions and average shear-wave velocity of ground from surface to 30 m depth, AVS, is investigated. The AVS is confirmed to be strongly correlated with amplification factor of ground. Empirical equations are developed for estimating the AVS in terms of site characteristics such as surface geology, geomorphological unit, surface soil and altitude. The results indicate that the Digital National Land Information could be an useful database for predicting the AVS in large area.
