抄録

The method of test for natural sands is explained here. We have only sands of low quality and besides siginficant difference in strength is found among them. We need to have some effective rnd practical scale for the strength grade of sands. Several methods of test were examined and the following facts became plain. (1) We can detect difference in mortar strength by 4-week compressive test using a specimen mold of 5φ×10cm in size. (2) The sand, the water cement ratio, and the portland cement itself, when its maker differs, are significant factors to the mortar strength. (3) Even if the sand and the water cement ratio are unchanged and if the mortar is plastic enough, sand cement ratio in the mortar is sometimes a significant factor to the mortar strength. (4) The strength of ground mortar decides the concrete strength and test result of the ground mortar by the method mentioned in (1) well shows the concrete strength. Basing on these facts, the auther adopts the following method of test for natural sands. The mold shall be an iron cylinder of 5cm in diameter and 10cm in height. The mix of the test mortar shall be that of the ground mortar of its mother concrete; the average absolute volume mix of three slumps 15, 19, 22cm. The cement shall be tested every day. Comparing the 4-week strength coefficient of mortar with that of the standard mortar, we classify the sands. The mortar of all the sands shall be tested in one group with the standard normal natural sand and the order of preparing every specimen shall be randomized.
