Abstract
An equation is developed for calculating strength of 90-degree hooked bar anchorage. The equation is derived from the analysis of authors' test results. It reflects the effects of six factors ; (1) concrete strength, (2) geometrical detailings of hook (radius of bend and the length of tail extension), (3) side cover thickness and spacings of anchored bars, (4) geometrical location and direction of the bend, (5) the projected development length and (6) confinement of transverse reinforcement on the anchorage strength. The proposed equation was compared with other proposals, and was verified from the applications to many previous test data. From this comparative study the authors' proposal gives the best prediction.
