Abstract

For the Japanese “Shared Space”, we examined some techniques for controlling the speed of the vehicles, especially road pavement design. We made 16 road design patterns and the subjects were asked the appropriate speed for each design using driving simulator.
As a result, a diagonal intersection pattern has the highest deceleration effect, and a stripe pattern along the direction of movement has the highest acceleration tendency.
As a whole, the youngest subjects and elder subjects have higher speed tendency, and the middle age subjects have lower speed tendency.
