Description

In this work, a new design method of linear-phase orthogonal nonseparable discrete wavelet transforms (DWT) with 2 vanishing moments are proposed based on lattice structure as a new tool for video coding. The DWTs used in JPEG2000 are known to yield fluctuation of hazy distortion when applied to motion picture. Our conjecture is that the DWTs do not have the orthogonal property. Since our proposed DWT has the orthogonal property, it is possible to reduce the hazy distortion. Coding experiments for real videos are shown for evaluating the relation between the spatial correlation of the distortion in the reconstructed picture and the orthogonal property of the transform.
