Description

Ce-doped Ca3Sc2Si3O12 phosphor was synthesized by a novel emulsion-evaporation (EE) method. The EE method consists of emulsion process and subsequent evaporation. In the former process, two different water-in-oil (W/O) emulsions were mixed. One contained metallic nitrate aqueous solution, and the other contained precipitant aqueous solution of ammonia and ammonium oxalate. The mixture was processed in a rotary evaporator at 90˚C, and then calcined at 600˚C. A single phase of Ca3Sc2Si3O12 began to form at a low temperature of 800˚C. Solid solubility of Ce appeared to be enhanced by the EE method. Emission intensity of the EE-derived sample at 1350˚C showed the higher intensity even when compared at the same Ce content than that prepared by precpitation method and solid state method.
