Abstract
Monolithic silica gels having hierarchically porous structure have been synthesized via surfactant-mediated sol-gel process accompanied by phase separation. The cylindrical mesopores templated by the surfactant were embedded in the micrometer-sized skeletons with a long-range geometrical order. The macro-porosity together with the surface area generated by the mesoporous skeletons was optimized in terms of efficiency in liquid chromatography separations. Relations between hierarchical pore structure and separation efficiency will be discussed.
