Description

Source, path, and site amplification factors are evaluated from the K-NET strong motion records of the 1997 Kagoshima-ken-hokuseibu earthquakes. The spectral inversion is applied to the 1330 horizontal strong motion records observed at 36 stations for 36 crustal events. The stress drop ranges from 10 to 100 bars, and the events occurred at shallower crust generally show smaller stress drop. Qs-value along the propagation path shows frequency dependency, and is modeled as Qs(f)=104f^<0.63>. Site amplification factors on Quaternary stations, in particular on alluvium and on pyroclastic flow deposit where structural damage is concentrated, show larger amplitude than those of stations on geologically older formations.
