Description

Reinforced concrete floor slabs connected to transverse beams might be helpful for structural systems to endure earthquakes after complete collapse of longitudinal beams. This paper proposes mathematical models of the subsystem composed of floor slabs and transverse beams which bears torsional moment, in order to estimate elastic stiffness and displacement of the subsystem. Two mathematical models are introduced in the form of differential equations. One model neglects distorsion of beam sections and the other considers it. Comparing the solutions of the models with those of Finite Element Method, the latter model shows better agreement with FEM on the estimation of torsional stiffness and deformation.
