Description
To reveal mechanical properties in micro–scale, nanoindentation test is performed for three purity level aluminums, 99.9999%(6N), 99.99%(4N) and 99%(2N). In the macroscopic mechanical properties obtained for aluminum with various purities, the increase of purity results in decreases of strength. However, mechanical properties in micro–scale are different from that in macro–scale. In nanoindentation test, the penetration depth for 6N and 4N is shallower than that for 2N. It is shown that high–purity aluminum, 6N and 4N, has harder strength than commercial–purity aluminum, 2N. Moreover, the deformation during the indentation shows discontinuous behavior for 6N, 4N and 2N samples in microscopic.
