Abstract
Recently, many types of soft actuators were developed using electro conducting polymers. In this study, we proposed the flexible actuators driven by an electro-heating. The fabricated actuator was composed of an electro-heat device, a modified shape memory alloy (SMA) fiber and electrodes. The modified SMA fiber can be contracted by heating and act as an artificial muscle. Two types of heating devices were tried based of particulate filled composites. One is a Joule heating device and another is a dielectric heating device. The driving characteristics of the heating devices were experimentally investigated. It is confirmed that the actuators can act by the proposed systems, still the bending displacement is a few mm to the 50mm length.
