Abstract

The building materials containing asbestos were transformed into un-asbestos by heating in overheated steam, and it was confirmed that the building materials could be reused as starting materials of portland cement. Furthermore, in order to put this technique into practical use, examination of the real large-scale equipment, investigation of profit-and-loss, etc. were performed. 1) Under the atmosphere of overheated steam, the building materials containing asbestos were heated at 900 degree temperature for 1 hour, which resulted in de-asbestization. De- asbestization was confirmed first for six kinds of building materials in a small experimental device, and then for 200kg corrugated slate panels using the large-sized experimental device immediately after the temperature in the center of the piled building materials reached 900 degree temperature. 2) Non-asbestos materials produced in the small experiment apparatus from the six kind of building materials was crushed under 0.01mm in particle diameter, were analyzed by the fluorescence X-rays diffraction. The result showed that non-asbestos building materials could be used as raw material of cement by adjustment of the compositions with the addition of limestone and so on.
