Abstract

Recently in Japan some citizens and some groups have opened their private gardens to the public. These activities have many sorts of effects to improve urban and rural landscape and communities. Some local governments have begun to support those activities. These open garden activities have not only these improvement effects but also stimulate local economy. In this research, using input-output analysis we estimated the quantity of economic effect to local area by open garden activities and compared with the economic effects of other greenery promotion events. It was found that the aomunt of economic effect to the local area by open garden activities is not as big as that of other greenery promotion events. But the induction rate of economic effect is as high as other greenery promotion events, and especially for input by public government the induction rate is much higher than other greenery events.
