Abstract

This study is to clarify the characteristics of landscape coping with cold weather by village of Log Cabin and to discuss the conservation of traditional houses of the area. The first purpose of this study is to clarify the characteristics and regional national identity by comparison of the management system through analysis of field and document survey. The second purpose is to analyze the change of landscape and resident’s consciousness due to government policy through hearing survey. Target areas were Jinjiang village and Xiaerdaogang village which are located in the foot of Changbai Mountain. The Chinese have been living in Jinjiang village and some Korean and Chinese cabins are located in Xiaerdaogang village. The result is that the differences on preservation of two villages’ landscape due to the two different nationalities and the local government's maintenance management. Simultaneously, the result leads to the buildings’ enlargement for sightseeing business in Jinjiang village. In Xiaerdaogang village, government has built new houses, and most residents have moved to new houses. The traditional Log Cabin houses are remained to be decayed. In both villages, traditional houses are threatened in danger. Appropriate management and immediate action of conservation is needed.
