Abstract

It is very important to get hold of the status qua of land use and its locational pattern in order to put the rational land use into practice. The studies on land use using mesh data have progressed rapidly in the past decade, but the studies with the vector data in regional scale are not so much in Japan. This paper selects the south part of Osaka Prefecture as the case study area, uses the GIS software ARC/INFO as a tool to input the landuse map in 1973 and 1990 by a digitizer, and analyzes the land use locational characteristics and the patterns of land use changes in the two years. Lastly, the issues of land use planning in this area needed to be solved are presented through the results of the case study.
