Description

This study has tried to reveal following points about the relation between the transformation of the city environment and traditional festival, in case of Sawara-city in Chiba prefecture. It was a kind of show for the pagent to tug the float on narrow traditional street and turn the corner beyond the difficulty. On that scenery street has change as if it was a stage. But the rapid environmental transformation by urbanization has made the fastival change its way of using place in the city. Especially the motorization and the change of commercial structure has influence to decrease the character of street as the stage of pagent. Then it is necessary to integrate the factor of traditional festival to urban design considering the context of the using of space by the festival in the meaning of tradition and human relation.
