説明

The drought response of Enkianthus perulatus after the stop of water supply was studied with special reference to the physical apperance. Leaf shedding and changing of leaf color was observed at the permanent wilting point of soil. While the water potential of soil decreased near around that of leaf, the leaf water potential was held around 2.5MPa. During this condition, leaf number decreased under half and leaf color became pale. Re-irrigation is required during this stage in order to escape lethal damage. When whole leaves witherd, the moisture content of stems was 30% and re-flush of new shoots was seldom observed.
