Abstract
We have synthesized rod-shaped nitroxide radical (NR) liquid crystalline (LC) compounds with a five-membered ring NR moiety in the mesogen core and a cyano group as one of the terminal units. These new compounds showed remarkable substituent effects of the cyano group on the phase transition behavior compared with the previous reported NRLC compounds containing alkoxy chains.
