Abstract
<br><br> Based on the time-series analyses of Pacific decadal oscillation (PDO) in December from 1984 to 2013, the most positive 8 years (PPY) and the most negative 8 years (NPY) of PDO were selected. Pressure fields, temperatures and wind systems in PPY and NPY were investigated in December, January and February. The influences of PDO were exerted upon not only the Pacific but also the global scale. In the case of PPY, Aleutian lows tended to develop and four-wave circulation prevailed, which led to cold winters in East Asia around North Japan, northeastern North Pacific, eastern USA and western Europe.
