Abstract
The use of the video-sharing site has increased in number worldwide since the launch of YouTube in 2005. Although there are social scientific studies on the two typical video-sharing sites in Japan: YouTube and NICO NICO DOUGA, there are yet only a handful of studies that compare them. Therefore, in this study the authors compared YouTube and NICO NICO DOUGA quantitatively in terms of their business model using the following evaluation measures. The authors focused on the number of the comments and attached tags, which are added to each video and on the number of views each video gets, on both YouTube and NICO NICO DOUGA. The author evaluated these 3 attributes of the top 20 most viewed videos from either site.
