Description

Dissimilar metal welding between aluminum and steel by friction stirring achieve high welding speed and high joining efficiency. In this welding, the tool probe plunged into the aluminum and the probe surface slightly grinded the steel surface during welding. The tool movements effect on the material flow during the welding. We investigated the material flow by measuring the three-dimensional forces acting on the weld joint and the temperature of weld interface during welding. We also observed the material flow by X-ray CT technique. From these results, we evaluated material flow in the dissimilar metal welding by friction stirring.
