Abstract

Since 1997 Kyushu Dental College has conducted "Learning in a basic science department" program in order to motivate students in the area of basic dental sciences. The questionnaire was addressed to students, faculties and graduate students, to evaluate the effectiveness of the curriculum. Almost students felt the enthusiasm by teaching staffs, and the strong interests in the basic dental sciences. Teaching staffs approved that it enhanced students' motivation to basic dental sciences. However, the program had scarcely influenced students to advance graduate school of basic dental sciences. The questionnaire of graduate students, indicated that the program had barely influenced their advances to graduate school, but is useful for their research works to some extent. These results demonstrated that more improvements of this program and an appropriate evaluation for the efforts of students are still needed.
