Description
Contact and Interpenetration Twins Seen From The Growth MechanismI. Sunagawa (Yamanashi Inst. Gemmol. & Jewel. Arts) The definition and origin of contact and interpenetration twins are critically discussed based on their growth mechanisms. It is shown that all growth twins start as contact twins by conjugating two individuals on original composition plane (OCP). When re-entrant corner effect operates throughout whole growth process, contact twin appears. If re-entrant corner effect diminishes and habit modification occurs during growth process, or OCP is on different faces from the composition plane, apparent interpenetration twin appears. It can be formed from the beginning only when growth of low temperature phase occurs on the surface of substrates which consists of twin domains due to phase transition.*Corresponding author: i.sunagawa@nifty.com
