Description

Thiamine dicetylsulfate, dibenzoylthiamine or thiamine hydrochloride was administered orally to the rats fed on thiamine deficient diet in the amount of equivalent to 20 μg of thiamine hydrochloride per head per day. The weight gains within 22 days, and thiamine contents of liver, muscle and blood, riboflavin contents of liver, and vitamin A contents of liver, kidneys and muscle of each group of the rats were found to be almost equal. These thiamine derivatives were given in the same way as mentioned above, to the rats fed on thiamine deficient ration, when the animals showed the decrease of body weight. The effect of each derivative on the increase of body weight was recognized on next day to the same extent and thereafter, the rats grew normally. At the eleventh day from the beginning of thiamine administration, thiamine contents of liver, muscle and blood of each group were found to be nearly equal.
