Description

Procalcitonin (PCT) is an important marker for the diagnosis of bacterial sepsis. In this study, we evaluated the basal performance of the recently developed PCT kit “Lumipulse Presto Brahms PCT”. The obtained within-run and between-day precisions were 1.1–2.0% and 3.3–3.5%, respectively. The obtained diluted linearity and lower limit of detection were 90.00 ng/mL and 0.003 ng/mL, respectively. Interference analysis showed that only RF negatively affected the assay results. PCT levels decreased to 14% at 24 hours and room temperature, in contrast to 5% at 4°C. The correlation coefficient (r) between this assay and the conventional assay was 0.991. The basal performance of the PCT kit is satisfactory and it could be used for measurement with high sensitivity. Results suggest that this kit is useful for the diagnosis of bacterial sepsis.
