Description
The study was designed to compare the method of thoracic breathing with the method of abdominal breathing, taking measure of indexes of physiology on an utilization to pregnant women.
36 non-pregnant healthy women (21.7±0.8 years of age) were chosen as the subjects of the study.
The results may be summarized as follows;
(1) There were significant differences in heart rate of a slow and deep breathing style between the thoracic and abdominal breathing, but was no significant difference in other physiological index in both breathings.
(2) The thoracic breathing was higher tcPO₂ levels and lower tcPCO₂ than attempts on the abdominal breathing and the resting level, therefore the thoracic breathing indicates the possibility of the condition of hyperventilation easily than the abdominal breathing.
(3) Take a slow and deep abdominal breathing showed more decrease heart rate than the resting level, and a rapid breathing showed remarkably lower the diastolic blood pressure.
According to our result this time, it seems to be quite all right to use both breathings during term of delivery.
