Abstract
This paper describes curriculum organization, instructional methods, learning environment and educational system regarding information technology education for a science or technology course for general high school students going on to university. In Japan, the Ministry of Education has invested a large budget to encourage information technology education in primary school, secondary school and high school. However, its curriculum rationale was based on a distributed curriculum across every existing subject, so there are many problems concerning educational aims and its realization. Moreover, teachers' skills and the educational environment for information technology education are insufficient for successful implementation. We propose a new integrated curriculum for information technology education that entails an of the articulated and consistent curriculum structure from primary school to high school. Especially, we emphasize project activities in which students can acquire knowledges and skills like design, modeling, control, self-expression/presentation and analysis/evaluation for solving the problems existing in the real world, reflecting the new educational paradigm of knowledge constructivism and socially situated learning.
