Description

This is a case study of color planning, including sign planning, that was developed for the Ibaraki prefectural Tsuchiura Third Senior High School. The color planning was devised concurrently with the original architectural planning, and the main objectives were to: 1. facilitate easy recognition of the various specific rooms. 2. provide a cheerful and positive environment. 3. instill a sense of pride in the school and its unique color planning. For the interiors, color themes were developed to reflect the particular usage of different types of classroom, and used as accent colors. For the façades, low chroma colors were planned for the base color, to help the school buildings, as a whole, to blend in with the environment. Accent colors from the interior reappear on the exterior. Since color planning was integral to the design for both buildings of the school from start to finish, coordinated educational spaces were achieved.
