Description
Literary text provides subtle language use, but is seldom used in textbooks. Even if it is used, it is for fast reading material. The purpose of this study is to investigate how learners change their reading comprehension through pair and class discussion by answering questions based on stylistics, which helps them focus on language form. The experiment was conducted on university students for three weeks. The result shows that (1) learners can understand the aim of the questions if they are asked to compare the difference between a pair of synonyms which turns out to be meaningful in the context and that (2) learners come to articulate the reasons of their reading comprehension and gain confidence by sharing their knowledge in pair and class discussion.
