Abstract

Traditional villages in Korea are economically based on agriculture, and currently facing severe economic problems. Under such a background, tourism has risen as a new source of income. The purpose of this study is to identify the relationship between tourism and sustainable maintenance based on case studies of Yangdong and Naganeupseong folk village. The research was conducted through grasping the residents' livelihood and protection activities, also the public policies for protection by methods of field survey and questionnaire. Results reveal that despite two villages has been developed under the same protection law, different level of government involvement and integrity of the tourism development has caused a gap of self-reliance in terms of the economic settlement and consciousness that is required to maintain sustainability between these two villages.
