Description

Until the eighth century Chinese characters were solely used for writing in the “yamato-kotoba” language. Then, far from being a pure native language, “yamato-kotoba” was in its origin regulated by and contaminated with something foreign, that is, the Chinese language. One may seek after a sort of cultural genuineness in classical literature, but it is always already inscribed with otherness in terms of écriture.
