Abstract

Hiraga Gennai, repeatedly mentioning "geino" or "gei" (performances)in his gesaku worksi tries on one hand to deny "geino" as a "system" and on the other hand to discover the way leading to "tenka" (the world)by means of his own "devices." At the same time, using "a show tent" as "topos", he attempts to define the relation of "gei" to "system" and "system" to "authority." In this essay it is explained that Gennai's expressions are based on his idea of getting free from "system."
