Abstract

I made an attempt to study the plot of this story by concentrating on the relationship between the central character Sagoromo and his father Horikawa. Dono and his mother Horikawa-no-Ue. The unusual life of Sagoromo, who came to the throne in spite of his being one of the boys born to a royal princess and had to live with his father's shadow on his back, deforms the relationship of the two persons. Because of his succession to the throne Sagoromo lived along the destination of his father's bitterness although, otherwise, his life should have been far different from his father's. The ralationship between the father and the son which runs through the story seems to be expanded to the plot of the whole story.
