Description
Today Nagata Mikihiko is regarded as a writer of popular novels. However, in the 1910's, especially in the former part of it, he drew attetion as a rising writer of serious literature by his "Gion" novels and "Tabiyakusha" novels. As a literary man of the "Subaru" group, he also advocated aestheticism and his works proved there was a possibility of a literary movement of anti-naturalism. The "Gion" novels typify these works, and the collection of the short stories, Gion-Yawa was one of the spiritual goals he reached. His style was established in this work as well.
