Abstract
It is the accepted view that Tade kuu Mushi is a work which proves to be a turning point in Tanizaki literature. As his turning point, I suggest the disappearance of the image of "the eternal woman", once always embedded in Tanizaki's mind. When this overriding value is removed, Tanizaki is set free from the closed value system and comes to have the self-cofidence to describe the image of "the eternal woman" for himself. At this point he returns to classical literature. Discussing the "Uso"(lies)and "Honto"(truth)of the three women described in Tade kuu Mushi, the change in Tanizaki during this period is pursued.
