Abstract

In the Nihon Shoki, Suzin Tenno is said to realize that the pestilence prevailing in the country is due to the curse of 'yaoyorozu no morokami' (myriads of deities) like Omono nushinokami and Yamato okuni tamanokami and so on, and to calm it down by the religious service of heavenly and earthly gods. But in the same book appears a different opinion that Suzin Tenno died young because he did not do the religious service enough. It is worth noticing that this opinion focuses on the oracle of Yamato okuni tamanokami. This essay tries to embody the theory of 'alter ego' in the making process of 'oracles' by the direct contact with gods.
