Abstract
The aim of this article is to examine Kyoka Izumi's method of quotation in his unfinished story "Rindo-to-nadeshiko." Indeed, in writing the story the author quoted from various sources, ranging from "Gamou-gunki" and "Shaka-hassou-yamato-bunko," which, I have discovered, are adapted for the episodes, to his own work "Uta-andon." Like people and things in the story that come from nowhere and wander for no definite purpose, the quotations, inserted at random and out of nowhere, diffusely yet dynamically expand the narrative space.
