Abstract
In the "Kyuchu-no-hana" series of the second volume of Shinyo-shic an anthology of poems completed in the late Nanbokucho Period, the meaning of the "capital" is confusing. In some cases it refers to Kyoto, but in others it does to Angu in Osaka, the provisional capital of the Nancho Dynasty. Such referential ambiguity, however, is far from editorial failure, for the editor made the word have a double meaning on purpose to reflect the political situation of the age. Shinyo-shu is not only poetically innovative but also politically expressive of the turbulent age through its own contradiction.
