Abstract
In this article I will discuss a Japanese legend about Yang Guifei which was very popular between the medieval and the early modern times. According to the legend, the Goddess of Atsuta was reborn into a woman who was none other than Yang Guifei. As one of the earliest discourses on the extraordinary legend there is a simple description of it in "Genso-kotei-no-koto" in the second volume of Soga-monogatari. In the course of time, however, while it was adapted for a Noh song or it was re-exported to Yang Guifei's country China, the legend began to show a peculiar development and change its content.
