Description

In his Marusu-no-uta, published before World War II, Jun Ishikawa deftly describes the historical process in which the public gradually became involved in a militaristic atmosphere through such ideological devises as popular songs and films. Here I will focus on the narrator's anti-war attitude in relation to Alain's philosophy, which inspired the author, and Ishikawa's own view of nature. There will appear a lone figure of a writer who continued to write against the grains of the age.
