Abstract

Is it possible to write "public fiction," a new sort of literary sphere proposed by Eiji Otsuka, in which the readers can share communicative activities? According to Mogi Kenichiro's theory of qualia or Seiji Takeda's phenomenology, an intersubjective common ground can be found beyond cognitive differences among individuals. In the act of reading, we may also reach down to such a common base. For the text-object is open to various readings of individual readers yet ultimately makes them conscious of an intersubjective framework of understanding.
