Abstract

The aim of this article is to describe the making of Roueikou-chu, Oe-no-Masafusa's annotation on Wakan-rouei-shu. Oe annotated on the collection of poems while editing it by order of the ex-Emperor Sirakawa. In his editorial and annotating work Oe selected poems most suitable for novice poets. For, as is shown in his frequent references to the popular way of writing poems, he wanted to teach them how to make or appreciate poems through the collection.
