<p>The general preface to Jikkin-shō is so plainly written that anyone can easily understand the anonymous editor's intention and standard of selection. Closely examined, however, it can be found that it is not only simply written but also very logically constructed by the editor's rational mind. This article will structurally analyze the well-wrought preface in order to shed a new light on the collection of religious fables.</p>
