Abstract

Before asking how ancient literature can be more methodologically studied, one should ask a more fundamental question: what is it to study ancient literature? Undeniably the current critical conditions of literary studies in general have been to a greater degree caused by internal factors than by external ones. Therefore it is desirable to seek a new approach to ancient literature without being too excessively theoretical.
