Description
Japanese learners need to learn to express emotion which is an important part of verbal communication. Emotion is often conveyed through Jouyo expressions which include onomatopoeia, interjections, supportive responses, various tones and paralanguage. However, these features are often not a focus of comprehensive Japanese textbooks. This paper introduces Japanese Drama Projects as a cooperative method to assist learners to develop their ability to express emotion. The activities include writing scripts, rehearsing, and holding performances (that are open to the public). During these activities, learners focus on conveying their feelings naturally.
