Abstract

Moodle is a popular open-source course management system, which was originally invented by Martin Dougiamas in 1999. It has four kinds of acknowledged feedback collecting systems: Choice, Survey, Feedback, and Questionnaire. The Choice module and the Survey module have been in use since the oldest currently available version and the Feedback module was incorporated into the Moodle standard package from version 2.0. While both of these are translated into Japanese alongside the standard package, the Questionnaire module is only offered as an independent software module even in the latest Moodle 2.2 and a Japanese translation does not exist. This paper looks into the development of these three systems and the state of the Japanese-language environment and compares their functions, reorganizing the scattered information mainly included in moodle.org, the official Moodle site. In addition, the procedure, meaning, and problems of the Questionnaire translation project conducted by the present authors in July, 2011 will be reported.
