Abstract

The study on the vitamin B_1 metabolism in 207 pregnant women was undertaken. l. Vitamin B_1 level in the whole blood was 56.2±31.2 ng/ml, somewhat lower than that of the normal subjects. 2. The activity of transketolase in the hemolysate was 368.3±68.9μg/ml ery/h, and the thiamine pyrophosphate effect was 17.6±11.1. Both could indicate the tendency of latent vitamin B_1 deficiency in pregnancy. 3. No definite correlation was confirmed between vitamin B_1 level and other vitamin B groups. It was suggested that the many pregnant women were in the vitamin B_1 deficiency. The edema and general fatigue of the pregnant women can not be disregarded from the standpoint of beriberi.
