Description

After oral administration of 5-chloroethylthiamine (I), together with minimum quantities of thiamine enough to keep their body weights to the thiamine deficient rats, the body weights were increased in proportion to the oral doses of (I) used, but not by parenteral administration. The same results were observed in the experiments with chickens. These results indicate that (I) does not show any anti-thiamine action to rats or chickens and partial conversion of (I) to thiamine may occur in the alimentary canal.
