Abstract

Weanling rats were fed a vitamin B_2-deficient diet or the same diet supplemented with riboflavin or riboflavin butyrate. The dramatic decrease fo the mitochondrial fatty acid oxidation of vitamin B_2-deficient rat liver was found. The fatty acid oxidation was reversed by the realimentation of the vitamin. Activities of acyl-CoA dehydrogenases were decreased under the vitamin B_2-deprived state and were increased by the realimentation of the vitamin. Other enzyme activities of the mitochondrial system remained constant under the various nutritional conditions. Fatty acid oxidation capacity and activities of individual enzymes involved in the peroxisomal system were not changed even under the vitamin B_2-deficient state.
